WITSA/ CISA Chairman Yvonne Chiu Delivers Speech at the Opening Ceremony of Digitec Armenia
Digitec 2018 was held at the Yerevan Expo from October 5th to 7th, attracting more than 200 exhibitors from all around the world. World Information Technology and Services Industry Alliance (WITSA) and Information Service Industry Association (CISA) Chairman Yvonne Chiu was invited to be on stage and kicked off the event jointly with Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan, and Armenia Minister of Ministry of Transport, Communication and Information Technology Hakob Arshakyan.
In her opening speech, Chairman Chiu said that the ICT industry is moving from the era of PC/ mobile phones to the era of software value-added creation. Therefore, cooperation between multinational and cross-industry has become the key to the future development. Currently, WITSA has 83 member states, including 30 from Asia and 20 from the Americas. Among European countries, 11 are from EU and non-EU countries, plus 11 countries from Africa all participate in the organization. WITSA is also striving to engage with more emerging countries, especially South Asia, ASEAN countries and the fast-growing Africa. WITSA believes that Asia, Africa and Eastern Europe have a lot of potential, and we see world-class technology companies invest in to seizing these emerging markets.
Chairman Chiu led representatives from Malaysia, Belarus, Egypt, Greece, and Taiwan to Yerevan, with the largest delegation from Taiwan. In October 2019, the World Science and Technology Conference (WCIT) will be held in Yerevan, Armenia. Taiwan will also organize a larger delegation to provide the greatest support for the event in Armenia.
Chairman Chiu further pointed out that Armenia is a young country with abundant dynamic of development in the field of information and technology. The crowds in Armenian Digitec prove the potential, the venue is packed with young people who are looking forward to meeting and learning new technology and knowledge. From the angel of industrial and commercial opportunities in Eastern Europe and the Middle East, plus Armenia has just signed a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with Iran, it is possible to have great potential business opportunities!
