Yvonne Chiu, Chairperson of Information Service Industry Association of ROC (CISA) and also the second elected Chairperson of World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA), was invited to deliver a speech as the keynote speaker at the opening of the annual “SOFTCON.ph”in Manila on 23 Oct.; meanwhile, Chiu visited the Acting Secretary of Department of Information and Communication Technology, Republic of the Philippines.
“SOFTCON.ph”is conducted by the Philippine Software Industry Association (PSIA), which is a leading non-profit organization participated by around 160 software & IT service companies in the Philippines. The membership is a dynamic ecosystem of players including small, medium, and multinational business-scale companies. Founded as the bridge between the industry and the government, PSIA provides capability development services and training to member and non-member entities in the industry. PSIA joins trade missions and conferences in the United States of America (USA), Japan, Australia, and the Asia Pacific annually to meet and bring clients to Philippine shores.
In late April this year, Mr. Jonathan De Luzuriaga, Chairperson of the Philippine Software Industry Association (PSIA), led a delegation to visit Taiwan's CISA. The delegation was accompanied by a team of 25 people including Mr. Michael Alfred V. Ignacio, Director of the Manila Economic and Cultural Office. Both parties of CISA and PSIA had signed a Memorandum of Understanding for exchanges and cooperation between the two associations. In September, Chiu was invited to visit PSIA and the leading big data company, Pointwest, which has more than 800 employees in the Philippines.
“SOFTCON.ph 2018”promoted and celebrated the world-class products and services for the Philippines' information communication technology industry. This important event brought ICT talents and professionals to discuss the country's ICT industry, to analyze the global trends in the marketplace, to share opportunities, challenges, and the vision of technology. This year, "SOFTCON.ph" also consisted of technical learning sessions that bring software experts and practitioners to provide their insights on the software development.
Yvonne Chiu, Chairperson of the World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA), stated in her speech at the opening that the Philippines has been gradually becoming a mature market for the global software service industry; in the global ICT market, the Philippines has constantly established a reputation of service efficiency, competitiveness and quality. By this opportunity, Chiu invited CISA's Chief Advisor Colley Hwang, also known as the CEO of DigiTimes, to share Taiwan's experience of ICT industry and indicate that Taiwan's software and hardware power can be integrated into the Asia-Pacific region for much more profound cooperation.
In addition to delivering the speech, Chiu also met with the local ICT representatives and also had a private meeting with Brigadier General Eliseo M. Rio, Jr. (Ret.) who is the Acting Secretary of Department of Information and Communication Technology, the Republic of the Philippines. In all these meetings, Chiu conveyed her missions and goals with a great expectation of enhancing the collaboration and business between Taiwan and the Philippines' ICT industry.
